Additionally, "Bonus" campsites - additional camp locations not shown on the BLM river map - are included. These have been used as campsites, and work well for parties of varying sizes.
Benefits of Rogue River GPS
Accurate: Each waypoint's location has been field verified by a trained cartographer and double-checked using hard copy maps.
Complete: Every BLM campsite is included, plus several "Bonus" campsites.
Time-Saver: Based on a study we conducted, if you were to hand enter the Latitude / Longitude coordinate of each campsite on the BLM map, it would take over three hours. If you were to include the Name of each campsite, it would increase the time to over four hours. At $9.95 for all 55 campsites, Rogue River GPS is a time-saver. Your time has a value.
Bonus Campsites: Perfectly good campsites not shown on the BLM map. The capacity of each campsite has not been researched at this time, but is being considered as a future update.
Lodge Access: Spending the night at Black Bar, Marial or Clay Hill Lodge? Rogue River GPS shows you where to tie up your boat. The raft tie-down locations for Black Bar and Marial lodges are not readily apparent, so having the coordinates helps you catch the right eddy!
KML File: You get a KML file with each purchase of Rogue River GPS and this file can be viewed in Google Earth.
More Benefits of Rogue River GPS
Most river runners can relate a story of trying to find a campsite late in the day, and then speculating how far they still have left to float. This is especially true in the lower section of the Rogue River where finding an open beach to camp becomes more difficult. Rogue River GPS makes the process of locating a campsite easier.
Collection Methodology
These waypoints were collected by a Geographic Information System (GIS) professional, Keith Massie. Keith has over 12 years experience using GPS equipment. Each point was collected in the field, and then verified using two different sources. Additionally, Keith spent over nine years as a river guide (six of those as an outfitter), and has guided over 50 trips on the Rogue River, in addition to having floated the Rogue River on dozens of private trips.
Rogue River GPS Deliverable
Rogue River GPS waypoints can be downloaded as a GPX file. GPX (the GPS Exchange Format) is a light-weight XML data format for the interchange of GPS data (waypoints, routes, and tracks) between applications and web services on the Internet. Almost all GPS receivers will import a GPX file.
The waypoints are in Latitude / Longitude and the datum is WGS 1984. WGS 1984 is the most commonly used datum for GPS units. The Name field for most older GPS units is only six characters long. The newer GPS units have either a 10 or 14 character name field. When you purchase Rogue River GPS, you receive three GPX files: The first GPX file has the waypoints named using 6 characters, the second GPX file has the waypoints named with 10 characters, and the third GPX file uses 14 characters. You choose which file you want to import into your GPS unit. Here is a Abbreviations table that shows the BLM campsite name, and the 6, 10 and 14 character abbreviations.
Additionally, the waypoints have a campsite icon.
Refund Policy

Purchase
The fee for Rogue River GPS waypoints is $9.95. This includes updates for 12 months from the time of purchase. Future plans call for obtaining digital photographs of each campsite, including the bonus campsites, and also providing waypoints for interesting sites, such as the Tate Creek slide.
